Minecraft Cathedral

This project took me the longest so far out of all my Minecraft models, spanning around 1-2 months. During this period I took a lot of interest in gothic architecture. The main layout for the cathedral follows a traditional cruciform structure, with rose windows and towers covering the 3 main entrances. However, the church isn't entirely gothic style, as some elements of it are more romanesque. For example, some of the arches I used aren't pointed like gothic arches, and instead are curved in a romanesque style.

Although my building takes inspiration from several different gothic structures, the main one that I looked at was the Cologne Cathedral. I liked the darker color scheme of the church, and I also copied the use of a center tower sitting on top of the crossing, which I replaced with a giant belltower.

Finally, after I finished constructing the main cathedral, I wanted to build an environment for it. For this, I went with a town inspired by the red-roofed buildings of Venice. I personally thought that it provided a nice contrast of colors, with the gray cathedral being highlighted by the smaller, more colorful buildings.
