Millenion Table & Chair

For my design course several other classmates and I worked on developing a pop-up cafe named "Millenion". My main role for this project was to help create the furniture that the cafe would use.

The overall idea of the cafe was to connect to Indigenous Taiwan heritage. So the main inspiration/concept behind the furniture set was the image of a flower, which is related to the idea of nature.

Another part of the furniture that had to be taken into consideration was the audience. The Millenion cafe catered to lower school students, so the heights of the stools and tables had to be adjusted accordingly.

One major issue that had to be resolved was coming up with a easily reproducible design that still looked nice and functioned normally.

Originally, the table and chairs were going to have 4 separate legs, but that had the issue of taking up too much time cutting out and sanding down. So, the 2nd design that I came up with was to join 2 of the legs together, which would mean each chair and table only required 2 legs to be made. I left a small hole in the middle of these legs, so that they could be joined together and form a singular base.

However, one thing that I forgot to account for was the irregular shape of the stool's top. Normally, the stool would've been stable because it would've used a circular top. But in my design I wanted to form a flower petal, and this resulted in the corners of the stool becoming too heavy, leading to a design that wasn't super stable. If I were to redo this design, I think I would space out the legs more or reduce the number of legs to 3 for a more stable base.
