Rooj Sofa & Chair
The name for this furniture set, "Rooj", mostly came from be mashing together "round" and "orange" into a single word. "Ro" for round and "oj" for orange juice. However, apprarently Rooj also refers to furniture in Hmong, which I found to be pretty fitting.
When I created this furniture set, I wanted to stray away from what I've previously done. For pretty much every furniture project that I've done, I utilized wood with mortise and tenon techniques. But for the Rooj, I decided to go with steel frames and cushioning.
The original concept for the Rooj came from a sketch that I did a while back.
The first image is what the sofa and chair look like before textures and rendering.
The second image showcases the initial room designs. The one on the right is the 1st room, which was later changed to the one on the left. I didn't really like the initial window design, and after looking at other online references it also felt pretty unrealistic. The second window I found to be much better and also allowed a larger view of the outside environment.
The main goal for this project was to learn how to make a room and environment for my furniture showcases. So most of this project wasn't spent on making the furniture, but instead creating the room and figuring out the lighting.
The first version, this featured a plain white background, similar to my previous chair models.
The second version, I decided to add more furniture to the area and give the Rooj an environment. However, I also was playing around, I tried a fisheye lens along with changing the lighting color. This version I didn't really like, felt like a backrooms level.
The third version, I decided to make my own room rather than having a plain background. However, this image felt pretty flat. I didn't quite get the lighting right, and the chandelier's light was too strong. This resulted in alsmot no shadows being present and the walls look very flat. On the right, the doorway wall is too thin, and the windows were just holes cut out of the wall.
The fourth and final version, I vastly improved the lighting and made the scene less flat. I went and remodeled the room, giving a new window layout too. I also went ahead and added a wall trim.
